From Athens Airport to the final turn towards the house.

At Athens Airport

Whether you fly with Aegean Airlines or another airline, you will arrive at Athens Airport. Sometimes the airplane is connected directly by a bridge, but often you take a transfer bus to the terminal.

Follow the signs to baggage claim and check the large display for your belt. After collecting your luggage, continue through customs, most likely through “Nothing to Declare”. The arrivals hall is directly beyond the doors, where drivers, family members and taxi services wait.

Car-rental procedures vary: some desks are inside the airport, while other companies use a shuttle or nearby office.

Leaving Athens

You need to make a few turns before you are properly on the highway in the right direction. After that, the route is much easier.

There are several toll points. We recommend carrying cash, including coins and small notes. The total is likely to be around €15, with many individual tolls around €2.70 or €3.80.

You drive through the outskirts of Athens. You will not pass the Acropolis, which is in the other direction.

Across Evia

You can reach Evia by ferry or road. We recommend the road because the ferry does not run very frequently.

You cross onto the island at Chalkida. The Evripos Strait is famous for its water current changing direction. The first part of Chalkida looks older and somewhat industrial, but do not let that first impression fool you.

You continue along the western side of Evia and the South Euboean Gulf, eventually reaching Aliveri. From there, you cross the island towards the greener, mountainous Aegean side.

The final route takes you through Stomio, then Platana, and up towards Enoria.

The final approach

At the edge of Enoria, you turn down a steep cemented road. You may see goats belonging to Maria and Nick, lovely local goat farmers who speak excellent English.

You pass Linda’s beautiful old-stone holiday house. The cemented section ends after her house and becomes a very short, compact dirt road. In summer, it feels almost like asphalt.
